We would not. A wound torsion spring holds enough stored energy to break bones, and it has to be wound with the door on the floor and the opener disconnected. This is the repair we are most often called out to after a homeowner has attempted it.
A standard replacement is normally finished in a single visit. If a cable or drum came off when the spring failed, that is usually still the same visit.
On a two-spring door we recommend it, and the reason is arithmetic rather than sales: the second spring has done the same number of cycles as the one that failed, so replacing one means paying the call-out twice. It is your call.
