What we installed
Modern wood-plank style doors in a weathered gray finish, on both openings.
The plank style gives you the horizontal line and the grain of a real timber door without the part nobody enjoys, which is what Tucson sun and monsoon humidity do to actual wood over a few seasons. There is no sealing or refinishing schedule to keep up with.
The weathered gray is what makes it work on this particular house. The block is a warm tan and the roof tile is a gray brown, so a gray with that much warmth in it picks up the roofline without fighting the walls. A white door on tan block reads as builder standard, and a dark brown would have closed the whole frontage in. The gray sits between the two and lets the block stay the main color of the house.
The result
The house presents completely differently from the street, and nothing structural changed to get there.
That is the appeal of doing the doors before a sale. It needs no permits and no run of trades following each other around, and it turns up in every photograph of the front of the house. For a listing, the photographs are the first showing.
